Google is constantly pushing the boundaries of what you can do on the Web. Their latest "experiment" is the WebGL globe - a 3D globe mapping population data over time.
The amazing thing about this is that this is made entirely in the browser. There are no images, no flash, and no fancy do-hickeys. It just WebGL + HTML5.
